In the United Kingdom, it would be fair to say we are mobile phone mad. According to OFCOM (Office of Communications - government body that regulates communications) there are over 74 million mobile connections in Britain, with 44% of adults using text messaging on a daily basis. It also stated that 40% of voice calls made were made using a mobile phone, and that Britain is “…one of the most advanced telecommunications markets in Europe”, and that the industry contributes up to £15bn to the government each year.
So, let`s drift away from the figures and focus on just why this is the case - mobile phones are amazingly useful, forever evolving and improving and offering so much more than just the opportunity of talking to people, such is the prevalence of phones with cameras and mp3 players now. So, what are the good new models around at the moment?
Well there are a few very exicting phones newly minted for a March-time release. One of these is the LG Arena KM900 multimedia phone, which apart from an effortlessly cool design also comes with WiFi, a TV-Out feature, an FM radio, and also has an 8GB internal memory which can be expanded up to 32GB. It also has the world`s first 3D interface, and a 5 megapixel built-in camera. In all, it is a stylish but functional phone.
Another good new model, especially for those who want to come down the budget scale a little, is the Nokia 6720. This phone is a mid-range model, but this does not mean it is at all skimpy on features. These include it being HSDPA capable, meaning it is 3G internet reading; it also has GPS and A-GPS, a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.5mm audio jack, a radio with RDS, and a TV-out facility. This is all built in the familiar sturdy yet stylish Nokia way, meaning longevity will not be a problem here.
The Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra Touch is also a big phone to look out for, if only for its long list of excellent features, including a 2.8 inch OLED capacitive touchscreen, an accelerometer, HSDPA capablility, a microSD slot for memory expansion, Bluetooth A2DP, an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash, face detection, smile detection and geo-tagging, GPS and A-GPS, an FM player with RDS, and has DiVX playback. All these functions make this, for me, one of the best phones around at the moment.
Finally, two other models are worthy of a mention - the ultra-cool Sony Ericsson W305 Yao and the Nokia N97. The latter is especially exciting as it is more of a “mobile computer”, with a touchscreen display, internet access and excellent video playback just some of the features available.
The range of new mobile phones is always changing, and I hope these mini mobile phone reviews have given you some ideas about your next mobile phone purchase
