by CoolPhone on October 28, 2008

Sony-Ericsson’s first PDA phone, X1 or knows as Xperia offers speed and power, multimedia and business devices, all wrapped in a very elegant and distinctive design. When Sony-Ericsson first showed a glimpsed of Xperia, we know that the mobile phones of the future will be OS driven as the Xperia is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1.

Life is mobile. Let everything that is important to you be with you all the time. The people in your life, the Internet, your music, pictures and video.

That is the tagline we got when we go to the Sony Ericsson X1 website. True to its promise, Xperia is the phone that’s a joy to use and comes with powerful applications and beautifully designed body.

The basics
To begin, it is 110.5 x 52.6 x 17.0 mm in size and weight approximately 158g. It comes in 2 colors - Solid Black / Steel Silver. It has an internal memory of 400MB and supports SD expansions. The UPs
Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 offers a stunning 800 x 480 pixels, 65k color TFT screens for a sharp and satisfying view for video playbacks and internet browsing. There’s no need to strain the eyes for the important details we need on those statistical web pages. The QWERTY keyboard, is a joy to use. It curves to fit the hand for great thumb typing position and the gap between those buttons really helps from hitting 2 buttons at the same time, especially for those people like me that have giant thumbs. This is extremely helpful as I find it quite annoying using other QWERTY keyboards especially those offered by HTC TyTn II. The camera that comes with Xperia is a cool 3.2 megapixel - auto-zoom, 3x digital zoom, photo light and can record video. The quality is descent enough for vacation images.

The DOWNs
That’s not really much down for the Xperia, however it is reported that the device has a subpar video standard in which it is unable to play a desirable 30 fps videos. But hopefully, they will release a patch to fix this.

Verdict
The Xperia X1 will be sold for a whopping £585. That is about USD$1000, €730. It’s a bit too expensive for everyone to have it. With its rivals offering prices that is slightly lower, its quite hard for people to actually consider this, especially with known major flaw in the video playback. The HTC Touch Pro is selling for US$670 with almost if not better features.
