When N95 was introduced it says “What computers can do”. So with N96, all I can say is “All an N95 can do, better and looks prettier”. Since the N95, phones were pretty much standard. Much of it offers the fast HSDPA connection, Wi-Fi enable, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, integrated camera and large screens (of course we’re only talking about trendy phones here in mobilephonevibes). N96 is not much more different than the rest except that it offers these functions at a higher scale.
For a start, it has a 2.8″ clear and very sharp display screen (TFT with 16 million colors) that is awesome especially when playing videos. Oh, and talking about playing video, it is soo smooth with no hickups thanks to the built-in video accelerator which makes N96 able to support video bit rates of well above 1.5 Mbps, while conserving the power use at the same time.
The Nokia N96 also comes with a 5 megapixel camera. But what’s cooler than that is that the camera has a geotagging functionality (via GPS). This is extremely helpful in which it recognizes the geographic location in where the picture had been taken for easy sorting when you transfered it to the computer.
However, there are some downside to it. First, it’s not more impressive and almost the same like the N81 8GB in terms of look. It also still uses the 950mAh battery that is in the N95 and we all heard what problems with that battery. To be in the premium price range (550 euros) is also a setback as it targeted a group that emphasis more on entertainment. Therefore, it should have priced it better in a range in which it is more affordable by many, especially the youngsters (which don’t have that much yet).
Other than that, it is a cool multimedia phone. It comes in cool shiny black color and a slider that works both way for entertainment and work (which is not the highlight of this model). The quality this time feels better as compared to N95 first release. It comes with a 16GB internal memory and a microSDHC slot that enables you add additional 8GB to make it a massive 24GB total storage. Fitting for a multimedia phone.
For a superb music experience, the Nokia N96 features media keys, a 3.5 mm headphone connector and built-in 3D stereo speakers. The Nokia Maps application offers richer maps with urban details and satellite views and has upgrade options such as City Guides, turn-by-turn pedestrian mode and voice-guided car navigation.
